2022 NFL Draft: Most Likely To…

We’re only one week away from the 2022 NFL Draft. Combine measurements have been made, interviews have been conducted, Pro Day workouts have been observed — all that’s left now is to see how the next generation of stars shakes out over the league on Draft Day. While we’ve been hearing everyone and their mothers debate the placement of the top five picks, the 40-yard dash times, the Hutchinson vs Thibodeaux debate, the best edge rusher in the class, and the size of Kenny Pickett’s hands, we wanted to dig deep into what these athletes’ futures will actually look like — you know, the stuff that really matters. We’re going to pass on picking the most explosive receiver — instead, here are our much more important superlatives for the 2022 draft class. Most likely to take th…

Major League Soccer has fined Inter Miami $2m and imposed other sanctions following its investigation into the 2020 signing of French international Blaise Matuidi.

The league’s investigation determined Miami violated roster designation rules for Matuidi and Andres Reyes. It also found the team didn’t disclose agreements that led to underreported salaries for Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Nicolas Figal and Julian Carranza.

Darwin Núñez ‘unstoppable’ despite frustrations in front of goal, says Klopp

Jürgen Klopp reiterated his confidence in Darwin Núñez after Liverpool’s 3-1 victory at Aston Villa, praising the Uruguay striker’s unselfish streak and insisting his £85m record signing is an “unstoppable” force despite his frustrations in front of goal.

Mohamed Salah equalled Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool goalscoring mark to open the scoring with his 172nd strike for the club. Núñez missed a golden chance to get on the scoresheet but played a pivotal role in the buildup to the 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic’s first Liverpool goal, which capped the scoring.

Borussia Dortmund have sealed the signing of the highly rated Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy on a four-year deal from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart.

The 28-year-old scored 28 goals in 28 league games last season, finishing behind only Harry Kane in Germany’s top-flight goal scoring charts. Dortmund have paid the player’s release clause of €17.5m (£14.7m). Guirassy declared that he has made the move to last season’s Champions League finalists “to win titles”.

UConn did not get the memo about March Madness

After everything this NCAA men’s tournament has had to offer. After all the one seeds fell. After an Ivy League school made the Sweet 16. After a Conference USA team made the Final Four. After 62 other schools lost, we get a blueblood in the title game. The UConn Huskies aren’t just advancing, they’re leaving foes twisted, contorted, and smushed on the bottom of their sneakers. I know the game of the day was San Diego State rallying back to beat FAU on a last-second jumper, but the team of this tournament has been UConn. No opponent has been able to stay within single digits of the Huskies. Miami tried, but every time they got the deficit under 10, UConn would go on a run led by one of their bigs, usually Adama Sonogo, but freshman center Donovan Clingan also has been devastatingly…

The Deadspin 2020 NFL Previews, AFC East: Tom’s Gone. Who’s Got Next?

For the past two decades, the safest bet in sports was for the to win their division. Not anymore. The Patriots have owned the AFC East. Since the turn of the century, New England has won 17 AFC East titles. But with Tom Brady in Tampa, this division is as open as it has ever been. The Bills are coming off a playoff appearance, the Dolphins are building a talented young team, the Jets are looking to prove they are better than last year’s record, and the Pats replaced their Super Bowl-winning QB with a former league MVP. Because of course they did. The conference is not as top-heavy as it used to be. And there is a case to be made for every team but Miami to win the division this year. Yankees move RHP Gerrit Cole (elbow) to 60-day IL

Any dreams of a speedy return to the mound for reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole were dashed Thursday when the New York Yankees moved the right-hander to the 60-day injured list due to elbow inflammation. On March 16, Cole said he wouldn't throw for three to four weeks in an effort to heal his ailing throwing elbow, telling reporters that nerve irritation and edema were the source of his problem, with rest and recovery the prescription. The Yankees finalized their Opening Day roster Thursday morning, also moving right-handers Tommy Kahnle (right shoulder inflammation) and McKinley Moore (right knee bursitis) to the 15-day injured list and infielders DJ LeMahieu (right foot contusion) and Oswald Peraza (right shoulder strain) to the 10-day list. All four m…

West Virginia seeks top form vs. Oklahoma State

Neither West Virginia nor Oklahoma State are off to desired starts in Big 12 play. With both teams in the conference basement, Saturday's meeting between the teams at Stillwater, Okla., presents an opportunity to move in a positive direction. For Oklahoma State (8-11, 0-6 Big 12) the pressure is mounting. The Cowboys appeared to be on the way to their first conference win Tuesday, leading TCU by 17 points in the first half. However, an almost nine-minute stretch without a field goal bridging the first and second halves doomed Oklahoma State, as it fell 74-69 to extend its losing streak to six games. "We have got to be more consistent throughout the game," Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton said. "When we get late in games and the jump shot is letting us down, we hav…
