Lukaku hails United match-winner Sanchez

Romelu Lukaku described Alexis Sanchez as one of the hardest-working players he has seen after watching him score the winning goal for Manchester United against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The home side battled from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Old Trafford and alleviate some of the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho.

Sanchez has struggled for form since joining from Arsenal in January but came off the bench to head home in the 90th minute and end his side s four-game winless run.

And Lukaku was full of praise for his team-mate s determination after he netted for the first time this season.

I would have wanted to have been in his shoes, but the guy is working really hard, Lukaku told MUTV.

Deportivo Alaves 1-0 Atletico Madrid: Laguardia header sees strugglers down LaLiga champions

Atletico Madrid s unbeaten start to their LaLiga title defence came to an end as Victor Laguardia s early goal proved decisive in a 1-0 win for struggling Deportivo Alaves.

Alaves headed into Saturday s early game having lost all five LaLiga matches in 2021-22, yet they overcame the champions to claim a first top-flight win over Atleti since 2003.

Laguardia was the crucial figure. His fourth-minute header gave Alaves the lead, and the 31-year-old also made a vital clearance off the line in the second half.

Mamadou Loum and Tomas Pina squandered golden chances to make sure of the points for Alaves, but Diego Simeone s team could not make their fortune count as they tasted defeat in LaLiga for the first time since April.

Javier Calleja made five changes f…

Senna flattered by Barca link

(GSM) Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has admitted that he feels privileged to be linked with Catalonia giants Barcelona.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Barca are considering the signing of Senna as a cover for defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets and as a replacement for Yaya Toure, who recently departed Camp Nou for Manchester City.

Brazilian-born midfielder, who was a star performer for Spain as they clinched the European title in 2008, had an injury plagued season last year and consequently missing out on this summer s World Cup.

Adams aware of Norwich doubt

Neil Adams acknowledges there is doubt over his position and the future of Norwich City s best players due to the club s likely relegation.

The 48-year-old took over from Chris Hughton at the start of April and looks set to preside over their relegation with Norwich requiring an unlikely final-day scenario to maintain their top-flight status.

Even a win against Arsenal coupled with defeat for West Brom against Stoke City would still leave the Carrow Road outfit needing a 17-goal swing in goal difference.

With the club primed to return to the Championship for the first time since 2011, Adams is aware of the fight he faces to secure the job long term and the task of keeping his better players.

I ve really enjoyed the job, but what I haven t enjoyed is the situati…

Wenger retains top-four belief after Sunderland win

Arsene Wenger has not given up on a top-four finish in the Premier League after Arsenal moved past their points tally from last season with a 2-0 win over Sunderland on Tuesday.

The Gunners finished second in the table behind Leicester City in 2015-16, but are in danger of missing out on Champions League football this time around, sitting fifth ahead the final round of matches.

Wenger who has yet to sign a new contract with the club  has received his fair share of criticism following their underwhelming results, but the Frenchman feels their potential failure to clinch a top-four finish is very much down their rivals improvements rather than their own struggles.

However, the Frenchman refuses to throw in the towel ahead of their clash with Everton on Sunday.
