Modric tips Tottenham star Kane to get even better

Croatia captain Luka Modric believes England counterpart and former Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane can still improve despite already being among the world s best strikers.

Kane has firmly established himself as a top marksman since debuting for Spurs in Modric s final season at the club.

The 25-year-old claimed the Golden Boot at the World Cup and has netted more than 20 goals in each of the past four Premier League campaigns.

While some observers claim burnout is beginning to reduce his effectiveness, Modric is confident Kane still has new levels to unlock.

He s scoring a lot in recent years, playing great and practically putting Tottenham in the title race, which is a big thing considering other clubs are spending a lot of money, Modric said.

Inter 3 Bologna 2: Candreva prevents remarkable turnaround in Coppa Italia thriller

Substitute Antonio Candreva scored a 98th-minute winner to send Inter into the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia with an enthralling 3-2 home win over Bologna.

Inter, fresh from six successive victories prior to Tuesday s game, took the lead in magnificent fashion through Jeison Murillo, who produced a finish belying that of a centre half to convert Joao Mario s corner with a sensational overhead kick.

Joao Mario then combined with Rodrigo Palacio to make it 2-0, but Bologna were given hope three minutes before half-time courtesy of Blerim Dzemaili s deflected effort.

Stefano Pioli s men had numerous opportunities to put the game to bed in the second half and eventually paid the price for not taking them when Godfred Donsah headed Bologna level.

Lyon and Liverpool in Shaqiri talks

Olympique Lyon have opened talks with Liverpool about potentially signing Xherdan Shaqiri, according to multiple sources. Nothing has been agreed yet and the two clubs remain significantly apart in their respective valuations of the player, but the negotiations are still ongoing.

Shaqiri joined Liverpool from Stoke City in 2018, having previously played for the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. He played an important role in their run to the 2019 Champions League triumph, as well as contributing much to their 2019-20 Premier League title, won after a 30-year drought. However, the Swiss international has never been able to establish himself as a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp, serving mostly as an understudy to Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane.

Chelsea can match Man City standard, says Tuchel

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel believes the Blues can challenge for the Premier League title next season as they look to close the gap on Manchester City.

City are 14 points clear atop the table and on track to secure silverware, while fifth-placed Chelsea fight to qualify for the Champions League this term.

Tuchel s Chelsea are 21 points adrift of Pep Guardiola s City, having finished 33 points behind Premier League champions Liverpool in 2019-20.

Chelsea have struggled to compete for the title since reigning supreme in 2016-17 – the London outfit were 26 points behind City in 2019 and 30 in 2018.

But former Paris Saint-Germain boss Tuchel, who replaced Frank Lampard in January, is confident Chelsea can match the standard set by City and Liverpool next …

Real and Barcelona to enter Sancho race

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both set to enter the race to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, according to SportBild.

The in-demand winger has set the football world alight with his lightning pace, skill on the ball and eye for a final pass, and he has understandably been on the radar of a number of top clubs across Europe since his move from Manchester City to the Signal Iduna Park in 2017 propelled his career upwards. He was strongly tipped to join Manchester United this summer, while Liverpool and Chelsea are also believed to be monitoring his situation closely.

Meanwhile, Real and Barcelona have the habit of targeting practically every top talent, and should they really make their move for Sancho, it would significantly decrease the chances of all three Engl…

Chelsea send out defensive duo on loan

Chelsea have agreed loan deals for Nigerian defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Ola Aina, who have joined Leganes and Torino, respectively.

Centre-back Omeruo, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2012, has previously spent time on loan at ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Alanyaspor and Kasimpasa, making 28 league appearances for the latter last season before being named in Nigeria s World Cup squad.

The 24-year-old played for the Super Eagles against Iceland and Argentina in Russia and has joined LaLiga outfit Leganes having yet to make his Chelsea debut.

Right-back Aina signed a new contract that will tie him to Chelsea until 2021 before agreeing to move to Serie A side Torino for the duration of 2018-19.

Good luck, !

Deschamps ´not worried´ about Griezmann as France gear up for Nations League Finals

Didier Deschamps is not worried about Antoine Griezmann s lack of form ahead of France s Nations League Finals campaign this week.

The 30-year-old returned to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in a high-profile transfer at the end of August following two largely underwhelming campaigns at Camp Nou.

Griezmann was expected to revive his career in the Spanish capital, but he has managed just one goal and no assists in seven appearances in his second spell with Atletico.

That solitary strike came in last week s 2-1 win over Milan in the Champions League, though he was again left out of Atletico s starting lineup for Saturday s showdown with Barcelona.

He has been named in Deschamps 23-man squad for this week s Nations League Finals, which will see France face …

Matuidi leaves Juventus ahead of expected Inter Miami move

Blaise Matuidi has left Juventus ahead of an expected move to MLS side Inter Miami.

Matuidi joined Juve from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, with the 2018 World Cup winner going on to help the Turin giants to three successive Serie A titles and one Coppa Italia triumph.

The French midfielder had another season left to run on his deal with Juve, but the Italian champions have agreed to terminate the remainder of his contract in order for the 33-year-old to join Miami on a free contract.

Matuidi made over 130 appearances for Juve, scoring eight goals.

With our colours on his back, he fought and played his heart out in every single game; placing constant pressure on the opponents, tearing apart the run of play and ever so eloquently relaunchin…

Vidic: I wouldn´t take Van Dijk over United´s defenders

Nemanja Vidic insisted he would not swap any of Manchester United s defenders for Virgil van Dijk or his Liverpool team-mates, while praising Victor Lindelof for displaying character to turn around his form.

United led the Premier League with 19 clean sheets in 2017-18 yet their goal has been breached in all but six of their 26 games to date this term.

Despite that, Sweden international Lindelof has received plaudits as one of United s better performers, the 24-year-old establishing himself at the heart of the club s defence after a difficult first season at Old Trafford.

Vidic, who spent eight years at United between 2006 and 2014, also took some time to find his feet in England before forming a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand.
